Roadside Balinese Macaques outside of Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia

I wish I could have moved that tree... but, I just love the expression on this older macaque. He garnered a lot of respect and you can see it in some of the photos. What a character for sure. And that stash, priceless!

Balinese macaques are all over the island of Bali. Some are friendly; most are not. I'd strongly recommend against interacting with any of them. And, I'd also highly recommend leaving anything of value, or anything that dangles, back at the hotel.

Having said that, this group was relatively timid. We were well outside of the main tourist areas and really just at a roadside stop where locals (and occasional tourists) feed a troop of macaques that have come to hang out there. Which came first is another question...
